You Thought We Stopped, Right?
Yeah, well, we didn't quite stop. But I'll explain the situation and how mathletes will pan out.
When I first started shooting this, I had planned on it just being a test film for a few things.
1) Doing a bigger production/longer film. I wanted to actually finish something over 5 minutes that didn't suck the big one.
2) Using the redrock 35mm adapter. I hadn't used it in an actual film and I wanted to see how it would work in a production environment.
For number 1, eh, ok. I can do that now. It's not a big deal, but it's only doable if I have actors/crew who are willing to work 10 hour days. I was just pulling kids who had no acting abilities and just looked the part.
I also had rewrote the script because I didn't think I could get enough people together for certain scenes. The way I had rewritten it made it much weaker and all the way through shooting I knew how I had to change the script to make it much much better. It killed me have to shoot the film knowing that it wouldn't live up to it's full potential.
I also believe it's one of the better scripts that I've had the opprotunity to shoot, I won't say that I wrote it as the bulk of it was done by Sasha Rosen, but I've just rewrote and rewrote what she already put on the page. So because of that, I want to make it the best I can and give 110% on it.
With school as well, I'm getting overburdened with new projects here and there and I'll soon be working on the feature that they're going to shoot, so my final decision on all of this was just to make it my final project for school. It will give me a chance to rewrite it and get it in a place that I'm really happy with it.
So, that's that. It's not that the production has been completely scrapped. It's going to be rewritten, recast(for the most part, hah, I'm keeping Kristin I hope!), and reshot. I'm hoping to use the footage that I've shot now as a trailer to pitch to my class(as well as show everyone else!).
Because I'm using this as my final project as well and we're only on our 3rd out of 5, that will give me about 4-5 months for pre-production. Giving me a huuuuuuuuuuuugee head start on it. Every detail of the film will be able to be planned out and I will be able to actually hold auditions and find the best actors for each role. I'm hoping in the end to be able to enter it into some sort of film festival, as even though it is sort of a kiddy-scooby doo mystery like story, I can still make it a great film that everyone can enjoy.
I'm also going to work on getting this blog out to everyone, trying to keep it updated with new things. So if you're up for it, send it around to your friends! Get em interested in the TI-83 Bandit!
