A Script By Chance?

I'm really contemplating just posting the script up, I mean, why not? I feel like that'll spark some interest possibly.

Funny thing is, I don't have a script anymore really....I've talked to a few of my teachers and now the story has changed a little bit. Instead of the mathletes losing their calculators, they have something much more precious stolen from them....Their brainpower.

The rest is pretty much the same, they have to find their brainpower before their next big meet against their rival school. The other thing that has changed is that one of the suspects is now the schools overachiever, instead of the kleptomaniac. Sorry guys.

Other things that have been added are computer, science, and chess nerds. They've come to help the mathletes out in their time of need.

Then most importantly, the title has been changed. As of now, it will go by

"Tales of a Mathlete"

A heartwrenching tale as we all know.

I'm going in tomorrow morning to talk about my outline, hopefully within the next few weeks I'll post up a 1st draft of the screenplay.

The last thing I have to say is that I'm 95% sure that I've got my good friend Kristin McReddie to play our Mathletes club president. She's going to do a wonderful job, I can just feel it!

Well, I'll keep you all updated. Later!

Rewrites Are Like Finding Focus

I read that today, that rewrites are like finding focus on a camera, because you go in and out of it, but no matter how many times you try for it, you'll never get it right on. I've come close to changing the story a lot and after getting some feedback from some people I think I may be headed in that direction again. I'll let you in on some of my ideas so far though.

First off! I've been working at a logline, just to reel things back in....

An overzealous math nerd must lead his rag-tag team of mathletes on a mission to recover their precious calculators stolen mere hours before the big meet against their rival school.

Just looking at that I can't help but giggle a little bit, I hope that's the same with you.

Because we're looking at such a large amount of people who need to have at least some amount of character development thrown at them, I'm considering giving them each a role or specialty that is told to the audience through some voice over. If you've ever seen the movie 'Cheats' they have a group of 3 students who cheat on tests. One being the brains, the other the muscle, and the guy who just writes CRAAAAAAAAZY small. Mine would be similar in having the different specialtys. So you know, you got various types of nerds and it'll just make it feel cool! Something you always wished you were involved in.

The last thing I'm thinking about doing, is finding a way to raise the stakes a little bit. Perhaps have one kid who just got waitlisted from MIT and this meet might put him over the top.

Oh! I just watched Rushmore this weekend, and as expensive as it may be, I think I want to put the mathletes in school uniforms. Similar to this...

Or perhaps like this?

Soon I'm going to start working on some character development stuff. A lot of my previous dialogue sounded like it was coming from one persons voice(My own, eeek!) so I think doing that will solve the problem.

After looking at a bunch of HVX Redrock M2 footage, I'm having a hard time saying no to the combo...oh well, tests will have to be done. It could be the right look for the film after all!

I'm going to try and talk with one of my instructors about my idea soon, we'll see how it pans out...
